Established in 1974, the program guides amateur archeologists in personal study and achievement. Completing each category of the program is an indication of knowledge and competence; however it should not be construed as license to excavate without professional supervision.

The certification categories are Basic Archeological Crew Member, Advanced Archeological Crew Member, Basic Archeological Surveyor, Advance Archeological Surveyor, Basic Archeological Laboratory Technician, Advanced Archeological Laboratory Technician, and Outreach Specialist. It is an excellent program for measuring your achievements in archeology, as well as a personal record of your experiences.
